In Conversation with the More-than-Human

For those curious about how this site was made.

This website was initially born in desire to share my work, but rapidly became something more. The little eco-system I have built here has been the culmination of years of fascination with the intersection between psyche, myth and the more-than-human world. If you read my ‘Eco-mythic Series’, you will see how much I value working in conversation with the world around me in a relational and reciprocal way. I have also touched on these ideas a few years back in my blog:  Art Materials: Curiosity, Connection and Inspiration."

So, in the spirit of relational creativity, I wanted to acknowledge that this website was built in collaboration with AI (most notably Chat GPT). This may feel a little radical to bring into this space- but I feel it is in line with my values of ethics and transparency. AI is a tool, it is also more-than-human. As we move into a different type of future, it is up to us to decide how we collaborate with these new technologies, and for me, I felt building this website became a deeply rewarding creative process. It also allowed me to put part of myself out in the world, in a way that I may otherwise not have been able to- well not in this way.

For me, AI acted as a sounding board, helped me with website structure to allow for easy navigation and flow, and most definitely helped me with code! How on earth else would I have managed to get a shell to shimmer and play ocean sounds? And yet, it is still very true that the creative heart of this website is deeply mine, with AI gently supporting me in the background. I will admit, though, that when AI comes up with a beauty of a title, e.g., Reliquaries- Artifacts from the Wilds, it can be a little hard to resist.

I would like to acknowledge that Liminal Wilds was built in collaboration with Squarespace, Chat GPT, Grammarly, Photoshop, Nikon DS200 & DS750, MacBook Air, iPhone 13, Adobe Stock and Google. All images are licensed and in the public domain.
