Seasonal Reflections

This little autumn leaf is not native- it is from the European Plain tree. Our Australian native trees do not change colour and drop their leaves during this time of year- for that is not really their style. Yet the land beneath our feet continues to rhythmically roll through the seasonal cycles, but not in the four seasons we often reference- namely Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring.

I live and create in Melbourne (Naarm) on Wurundjeri Country, in the lands of the Kulin Nation. Here there are six living cycles, each guided by the subtle shifts of the earth, the flowering of plants and the migrations of animals.

I honour these deeper cycles and invite you to listen more closely to the seasons of this place

The winds are changing….

She rolls in with cool winds, Miss Autumn

Shaking her crispy leaves like a fashion statement

Time for a warm cuppa

Tea bags in the sink

Streets settle more in their stillness

A grey cloudy hue at dusk

I head out the door with my dog

Jeans on…

But a t-shirt still

As the wind continues to change…

I will soon put a jumper on

What small shift in the season are you noticing today?
